Cramer Statement on Judicial Ruling Blocking BLM Fracking Rules

Press Release

Date: Sept. 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after Judge Scott W. Skavdahl of the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming issued a preliminary injunction blocking the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from implementing its new rules on hydraulic fracturing on federal and tribal lands.

"North Dakota has been successfully regulating hydraulic fracturing and oil production as a whole for decades and these rules are unnecessary. Today's ruling halts this duplicative rule and represents a victory for states' rights. It puzzles me the BLM hasn't even listened to the EPA's own scientists who confirmed hydraulic fracturing hasn't posed a threat to drinking water."

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources Oil and Gas Division regulates the drilling and production of oil and gas in North Dakota, including the practice of hydraulic fracturing. In June 2015 the Environmental Protection Agency confirmed states are successfully managing these activities in its released Draft Assessment on the Potential Impacts to Drinking Water Resources from Hydraulic Fracturing Activities where it concluded the practice of hydraulic fracturing has not led to impacts on drinking water resources."
