Young Responds to President Obama's Plan To Transfer Guantanamo Detainees to United States

Statement

Congressman Todd Young (R-IN) issued the following statement in response to President Obama's plan to close the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and transfer detainees to U.S. facilities:

"As someone who spent a decade in the United States military, I firmly believe our citizens security is the most fundamental consideration of government. War detention is a necessary, critical component to neutralize our enemies as well as obtain valuable intelligence. Guantanamo Bay should remain open, as it continues to play an integral part in our national security strategy. President Obama's efforts to politicize this issue have repeatedly backfired, and strong opposition to his plan exists on both sides of the aisle for good reason: because it's dangerous."
