Rep. Todd Young Calls Obama On His Gratuitous Praise of Iran

Congressman Todd Young (R-IN) released the following statement in response to President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday evening:

"Last night as President Obama heaped praise on the Iranian regime for giving Russia parts of its illegal nuclear weapons program, 10 American sailors were detained by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,"said Rep. Young.

"We should all be troubled by the Obama Administration's haste to downplay the boarding of U.S. ships and the overnight detention of U.S. Marines. The entire incident continues a dangerous trend-line of appeasement for fear of spoiling President Obama's legacy nuclear deal. Detaining American citizens, convicting a Washington Post reporter of espionage, firing unguided rockets in close proximity to U.S. carriers, illegally launching ballistic missiles--all hostile provocations by Iran in recent months, all of which elicited tepid response from the White House."

"To Republicans and a growing number of Democrats it is abundantly clear President Obama and Secretary Kerry lack the will to stand up to this terror-supporting regime. With the deal set to be implemented at all cost, I believe we must continue to do everything possible in Congress to provide oversight and address the outlaw terrorist regime's saber rattling tactics. Unsurprisingly, my effort to create a Select Committee that can provide robust oversight and hold the Islamic Republic of Iran accountable is gaining traction on Capitol Hill with each passing provocation."
