Today, Congressman Marlin Stutzman released the following statement after voting in support of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, which passed the House by a vote of 318 to 109.
"Today, my colleagues in the House and I voted in support of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act. This important package includes various tax policies that will assist our friends and neighbors, as well as return competitiveness to America's businesses, small and large. Highlights include making permanent the enhanced 179 deduction and the Research and Development tax credit, as well as, suspending the onerous medical device tax for two years. These provisions are huge wins for our district's farmers, small businesses, and medical device manufacturers.
Importantly, this tax package also stops the cyclical practice of the past which has been to spend months out of the year debating tax breaks, only to get to the end of the year and apply them retroactively. This process, which is both cumbersome and irresponsible, is ultimately a distraction from the bigger task at hand: crafting sound, quality tax reform. While todays' package made important and valuable changes, it is time enact comprehensive tax reform which returns money to taxpayers and simplifies the code for everyone--not just for those with teams of tax lawyers."
