Stutzman Votes to Strengthen Visa-Waiver Program

Statement

Date: Dec. 8, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Marlin Stutzman released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Program Improvement Act which passed the House by an overwhelming vote of 407-19:

"Today I voted to update our visa waiver program which will reduce the risk of an extremist entering the country from abroad. This legislation will strengthen the certification requirements for all countries participating in the program, prompting these countries to share critical threat intelligence and ensuring that they are using the best international security protocols. Most importantly, this legislation prohibits aliens who are nationals of or have traveled to terrorist hotspots, like Iraq and Syria, as recently as 2011 from access to visa-free travel to this country. I believe politics should never be in play when protecting the safety and the security of the American people."
