U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued this statement today following the passage of the conference report for H.R. 22, the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act of 2015 by a 359-65 vote.
"Building and maintaining roads and infrastructure to facilitate interstate commerce is a constitutional responsibility I take very seriously. Competing in our global economy requires a pro-growth tax system, access to capital, and strong infrastructure. The highway conference report that passed in the House today begins to put our nation on this path towards growth and prosperity by providing certainty in funding over the next 5 years. By fully investing in our roads and bridges, streamlining construction permitting processes, and overhauling transportation programs this bill ensures our nation's infrastructure will be safe and reliable into the future. And as the "Crossroads of America,' this legislation will help the Hoosier State continue to be one of the best places in the country to do business.
"Importantly, this conference report also reverses the unfair cuts made to the Crop Insurance program behind closed doors in the latest budget agreement. Hoosier farmers, especially in crop years like this one, rely on this critical risk management tool and I appreciate Speaker Ryan and Leader McCarthy's efforts in fixing this issue."
