Van Hollen Offers Amendment Protecting Women's Health Care

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, offered the first Democratic amendment during mark up of the Republican FY 2017 budget in order to protect women's health care.

"Our Republican colleagues are spending taxpayer money on this new Committee that is going after women's health care, so this is an amendment that says, enough is enough," Ranking Member Van Hollen said. "We should support this amendment to make sure that we protect women's health care, end the witch hunt, and stick to the facts in this important national debate."

The amendment stated, "It is the policy of this resolution that Congress should protect women's access to quality, affordable health care, and should not repeal the ACA, slash Medicaid, or restrict or prohibit federal funding to Planned Parenthood."

The amendment was blocked by Republicans on the Committee
