Issues: Transportation

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. is a strong advocate for robust national transportation funding to repair our country's failing infrastructure. Pallone has consistently supported increased federal funding for Amtrak, which is a critical mode of transportation in the northeast United States. Pallone was an early supporter of the ARC Tunnel under the Hudson River, which would have doubled the number of trains that entered Manhattan from New Jersey. He is a staunch supporter of public transportation, whether it is through increased federal funding for NJ Transit rail repairs and rail cars or securing federal funding to dredge channels for the ferries that travel from Monmouth County to Manhattan.

Last year, Congressman Pallone supported the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century transportation package, or MAP-21, which will sustain almost 1.9 million transportation-related jobs nationwide, including over 50,000 in New Jersey. This number includes almost 20,000 jobs in New Jersey to support public transit.

Congressman Pallone helped facilitate passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which brought over a billion dollars in transportation funds directly to New Jersey. Funds from this package were used to more than double parking capacity at the Edison Train Station so more commuters could utilize public transportation to get to work.

Congressman Pallone is a dedicated supporter of transportation research in New Jersey and was instrumental in securing and maintaining Rutgers University's status as a University Transportation Center, a hub for federal research dollars into transportation issues. As a result, Rutgers is a leader in developing innovative technologies and practices that lead to faster construction and longer-lasting, efficient and safe highways and bridges.
