Statement from Governor Hassan on Amendment to Legislation Providing Resources for Substance Misuse Prevention, Treatment and Recovery

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on the New Hampshire State Senate's vote to pass an amended version of Senate Bill 533, which includes the Governor's proposal for $5 million to support prevention, treatment and recovery programs:

"I am pleased that the Senate has at last acted on my request for additional resources to address the heroin and opioid crisis, however I do have concerns that portions of the amendment could lead to budgetary challenges down the road. Combating the heroin and opioid crisis continues to require that we act with the same sense of urgency that is felt by citizens across the state, and we have the resources available to strengthen prevention, treatment and recovery programs now. Despite my concerns with portions of the amendment, I remain encouraged by the bipartisan cooperation in the Senate to support prevention, treatment and recovery programs, and I urge the House to provide new resources to help combat this horrible epidemic."
