U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement on the Senate's passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It passed by a bipartisan majority vote of 91-3 and includes a number of provisions offered by Rounds. It now heads to President Obama's desk to be signed into law.
"As we approach Veterans Day, we are reminded of the enormous sacrifices and dangerous missions of our brave men and women in uniform," said Rounds. "Giving them our full support -- during and after their service -- is not a partisan issue. I'm pleased my colleagues on both sides of the aisle came together to pass this important legislation, which will provide our armed forces with the tools they need to continue to keep us safe and secure here at home. I'm also pleased that a number of provisions I offered were included in the final version, including legislation that will help develop the Air Force's new bomber and improve the health care of our service members, military retirees and their families."
Four provisions Rounds offered to the NDAA were included in the final package. These include amendments to help develop the Air Force's new long-range strike bomber, improve the Pentagon workforce that develops new weapons and help states and local units of government if they are targets of cyber-attacks. The NDAA also included Rounds' provision to streamline Tricare services.
