Congressman Collins Statement on Georgia Data Breach

Statement

Date: Nov. 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Doug Collins released the following statement on the recent data breach in Georgia, where the social security numbers and other personal information of more than six million Georgia voters were released to outside parties.

"Protecting the personal information of all Americans should be the top priority of industry and government alike," said Congressman Collins. "Technology has made the impossible, possible. Along with the opportunities of the digital revolution comes a most sacred responsibility to consumers and citizens. The ability to participate in elections freely and without fear of harm is one of the fundamental rights protected by our Constitution. It is my hope that the Secretary of State's office restores the trust of Georgia voters, and takes the necessary steps to ensure such a data breach never occurs again."
