Sessions: Dallas County Approved for Public Assistance from FEMA

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX) issued the following statement regarding the President's disaster declaration for the State of Texas. In response to the tornadoes that struck in North Texas on December 26, 2015, Governor Greg Abbott requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration to provide public and individual assistance for 25 Texas counties including Dallas County. Today, the President and FEMA granted the request for public assistance, which provides grants to state and local governments and certain non-profit entities to assist them with the response to and recovery from disasters. Specifically, the program provides assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and permanent restoration of public infrastructure.

"I am pleased to learn that the President and FEMA have granted public assistance to help cities in North Texas -- including Garland and Rowlett - rebuild and restore their communities. I applaud the hard work and leadership that the local mayors and city officials have displayed during this trying time and I will continue to work with local, state, and federal leaders to ensure North Texans have access to the resources they need to help with their recovery."

The request for individual assistance for the following six Texas counties remains under review: Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Franklin, Rockwall and Van Zandt. As FEMA reviews the request for individual assistance -- assistance provided to private citizens- there are other organizations such as the Small Business Association who can assist individuals who were in the affected areas with low interest disaster loans.
