Sessions Takes First Step to Halt the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Program

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement applauding the first step in halting the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Program and preventing radical Islamic Terrorists from infiltrating the refugee program:

"In the wake of the devastating terrorist attacks in Paris we must take the necessary measures to bolster our national security and protect the American people. Over the last year I have worked with Chairman Michael McCaul's Foreign Fighter Task Force and traveled to the Middle East to learn how we can effectively stop ISIS and other radical terrorist groups from coming to the United States. Today the House took the first step in addressing this critical issue by passing legislation that puts an effective pause on the refugee program in order to prevent Islamic Jihadists from using it to infiltrate our country.

"This bill is not about partisan politics. This bill is about protecting American lives. We know that ISIS is seeking to exploit refugee programs in order to sneak into the United States and harm our great nation, and that's the specific problem this bill seeks to solve. I refuse to let these barbarians win and I will continue to fight to uphold my duty to secure the homeland and protect the American people."
