U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement regarding the House's vote to increase the debt limit:
"Throughout my time in Congress I have fought to reduce the size of our bloated government, cut unsustainable spending, and get our fiscal house in order. Today's deal irresponsibly raises the debt ceiling and blows through spending caps without adequately tackling the true drivers of our debt -- entitlement programs. I could not vote for this bill because increasing the debt limit without real long-term reforms will be bad for jobs, bad for North Texas families, and bad for our overall economic recovery. I remain committed to working with my colleagues in the House to get back to regular order, rein in government spending, implement meaningful economic reforms, and reduce the growing mountain of debt on our future generations."
