U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement regarding the passage of legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank:
"While I wholeheartedly disagree with the process by which this measure was considered, I supported passage of this legislation because it makes necessary reforms to the Export-Import Bank that prevent the executive branch from abusing the bank as a political tool and ensures further taxpayer protection by strengthening transparency and accountability requirements. The Ex-Im Bank provides vital export financing that would otherwise be unavailable to many exporters across the nation, including in my home state of Texas. More than 1,000 Texas companies both large and small utilize Ex-Im to finance $19 billion in exports and support 152,982 jobs. No state benefits more from the Ex-Im Bank than Texas, and in the 32nd Congressional District alone Ex-Im supports $309 million in exports and 1,974 jobs. I have and always will support legislation that creates jobs and drives economic growth, and with these necessary reforms I believe the Ex-Im Bank will continue to do just that."
