Governor Hassan's Statement on Announcement of Affordable Care Act Grants to New Hampshire Health Centers to Expand and Improve Substance Abuse Treatment

Governor Hassan released the following statement on the announcement that four New Hampshire health centers will receive additional federal funding made possible by the Affordable Care Act to expand and improve substance abuse treatment:

"These resources made possible by the Affordable Care Act will help four New Hampshire treatment providers continue their support for Granite Staters battling addiction, and while I am encouraged that the federal government recognizes that states need additional resources to combat the heroin and opioid crisis, there is still more work to do. That is why I joined my fellow Governors in calling for federal action to support states in a comprehensive set of recommendations issued by the NGA, why Congress needs to act to pass additional emergency funding, and why I continue to urge to New Hampshire State Legislature to act as quickly as possible on a number of pending bills that would provide additional resources to support law enforcement and strengthen, prevention, treatment and recovery.

"We also need to reauthorize our bipartisan New Hampshire Health Protection Program, which has provided substance abuse and behavioral health services to thousands of Granite Staters and is essential to increasing treatment capacity in New Hampshire. Moving forward, I will continue to work with members from both parties and stakeholders at all levels and push for urgent action to combat this horrible epidemic and help save lives."
