Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after the New Hampshire House of Representatives' bipartisan vote to pass Senate Bill 380, establishing the drinking water and groundwater trust fund and establishing the New Hampshire drinking water and groundwater advisory commission:
"Ensuring that all Granite Staters have access to clean drinking water is critical to the health and well-being of our people, as well as a thriving economy. Drinking water across our state was contaminated by MtBE, and while clean-up efforts are already underway, we still have much work to do to restore drinking water quality. This bipartisan bill will create a trust fund that will ensure that funds from the MtBE settlement and lawsuits are used for their intended purpose -- removing MtBE contamination and ensuring access to safe and clean drinking water now and into the future -- and I commend the House for its bipartisan vote."
