As the third-ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, I have been a leader in Congress in working to abolish the current federal tax code and replace it with something more simple and fair to working families. I voted for the 2001 tax cuts that reduced all individual income tax rates across the board, reduced all tax rates on investments and phased down the estate tax. I continue to fight for and be a strong proponent of measures to lower the tax burden on all Americans. For those efforts, I have an A rating from the National Taxpayers Union.
Our current tax code is far too long, complex and anti-competitive to serve as the long-term foundation for economic growth our country needs. We cannot tax our way to prosperity and need to completely redesign our nation's tax code with an emphasis on broadening the base, reducing complexity and eliminating anti-competitive provisions.
I am fighting for tax reforms that would create fairness in the tax code, reduce the burden on all Americans, help lower federal deficits and would stimulate economic growth. I will continue to push for limited government that spends wisely and avoids excessive, unfair and outrageous spending sprees with your tax dollars.
