Gov. Scott: Naples Added Nearly 3,000 Jobs Over the Year

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Naples area added 2,900 private-sector jobs over the year in January. The area's unemployment rate declined by 0.5 percent over the year to 4.8 percent in January. Florida has added 1,060,800 private sector jobs since 2010. Governor Scott will celebrate this great news today on his five-city "Million, Billion Jobs Victory Tour."

Governor Scott said, "Naples continues to grow, with nearly 3,000 new jobs created for local families. On our "Million, Billion Jobs Victory Tour' today, we are also celebrating the creation of more than one million jobs since December 2010 and more than $1 billion in taxes cut over the past two years. We want Florida to be the number one state for jobs so every Floridian has the opportunity to succeed."

The industries with the greatest job growth in the Naples area over the year in January were construction, and leisure and hospitality, both with 1,000 new jobs. Naples had 4,425 job openings in January, of which, 856 included high-wage science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) occupations.

Florida created 36,000 private-sector jobs in January, and a total of 1,060,800 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for January remains steady at 5.0 percent. In January, more than 28,843 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Southwest Florida and the state's other 24 regional workforce boards.
