Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement on the postponement of the Republican budget markup:
"This delay is yet another indication that the extreme Tea Party is in control of the Republican majority. As Republicans argue among themselves about just how much they'd like to cut Social Security, Medicare, and other vital safety net programs, Democrats stand ready to actually get things done for working families. I hope the Republican leadership will use the extra time afforded by this delay to honor the longstanding tradition of providing the President the opportunity to present his budget to the Committee. The American people deserve a fair and open debate of ideas to build an economy that works for everyone."
