Polis Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Review DAPA/DACA+

Rep. Jared Polis (CO-02) released the following statement today following the Supreme Court's announcement that it will review the Appeals Court decision that halted the implementation of the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program and the expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

"The Supreme Court's decision is a promising step for millions of hardworking Americans, many of whom were brought here as kids and know no other home. Nobody who abides by the law and contributes to their community should have to worry about being torn from their family.

"The President's authority to prioritize the removal of serious criminals over the parents of American kids or young people who came to this country as infants is not only morally justified; it's unambiguously within the law. Every president since Eisenhower has taken executive action to shape immigration priorities over the last 50 years. The court decisions that halted these programs were founded in politics, not in any statute or legal precedent, and they represent the very worst kind of judicial activism. That's why I'm confident the Supreme Court will ultimately reverse the Fifth Circuit's baseless decision so that these commonsense enforcement priorities can finally take effect. Justice will finally arrive in June."
