U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn) released the following statement after Campbell Soup, the parent company of Connecticut's Pepperidge Farm, announced its support for mandatory national labeling of food products containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

"When I talk to people in Connecticut, they tell me they want to know what's in the food they eat and to understand how that food is made. I applaud Campbell Soup for coming out in support of national, mandatory GMO labeling. Connecticut made me proud by becoming the first state to pass a mandatory GMO labeling law, and as an original cosponsor of the Genetically Engineered Right to Know Act I will continue to support the consumer's right to make informed decisions about their food. I look forward to working alongside all parties towards establishing a strong national labeling standard. "
