U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) released the following statement today after Iranian television reported that Washington Post correspondent Jason Rezaian has been convicted in an espionage trial that ended in August:

"This kangaroo court conviction is a contemptible mockery of justice, law and liberty. I stand with Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian and the other Americans currently held in Iranian prisons in supporting their right to freedom, right away. I support action by our nation and the international community to achieve his immediate release."
