Cotton Statement on Attorney General Lynch's Guantanamo Bay Comments

Statement

Date: Nov. 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on Attorney General Loretta Lynch's admission yesterday that transferring detainees from the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility to the United States would be a violation of the law:

"I'm pleased Attorney General Lynch seems to understand that the President's plan to close Guantanamo Bay and transfer inmates to the United States is unlawful. It's about time someone in the Obama Administration finally recognized that we are a nation of laws and that those laws must be enforced. Now if only they would recognize that this facility is an effective counterterrorism tool. I urge President Obama to heed Attorney General Lynch's warnings and leave these terrorists in Guantanamo Bay where they belong."
