Governor Hassan on Senate Vote to Pass MtBE Bill

Statement

Date: Feb. 4, 2016
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after the New Hampshire State Senate's bipartisan vote to pass Senate Bill 380, establishing the drinking water and groundwater trust fund and establishing the New Hampshire drinking water and groundwater advisory commission:

"As we await the final decision in the MtBE case, it is prudent that we have a plan in place for the use of settlement funds. Drinking water across our state was contaminated by MtBE, and while clean-up efforts are already underway, we still have much work to do to restore drinking water quality and ensure that all Granite Staters have access to clean drinking water. By creating a trust fund, we can ensure that these dollars are used for their intended purpose -- removing MtBE contamination and ensuring access to safe and clean drinking water now and into the future -- and I thank members of both parties in the Senate for supporting this critical priority."
