Governor Hassan's Statement on Senate Passage of Bills to Combat Heroin and Opioid Crisis

Governor Hassan issued the following statement after the New Hampshire State Senate passed three early bills -- Senate bills 464, 485 and 522 -- to help combat the heroin and opioid crisis in a bipartisan vote:

"The heroin and opioid crisis is the most urgent public health and public safety crisis facing New Hampshire, and we continue to work across party lines on a comprehensive approach to support law enforcement and strengthen prevention, treatment and recovery. Each of these measures -- a statewide drug court program, additional support for local law enforcement and technology upgrades to our prescription drug monitoring program -- were part of my comprehensive proposal in November because they will strengthen our efforts to combat this horrible epidemic and help save lives.

"I applaud the Senate for their swift and bipartisan action on these bills and encourage the House to work as quickly as possible to send these important measures to my desk. While this is another critical step forward, we know that our work to combat the heroin and opioid crisis must continue, including reauthorizing our bipartisan health care expansion plan, which is essential to increasing treatment capacity in New Hampshire."
