Governor Hassan Announces Final Surplus of $62 Million for Fiscal Year 2015

Continuing her commitment to fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget, Governor Maggie Hassan today announced the release of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, which showed that the State of New Hampshire finished Fiscal Year 2015 with a $62 million surplus. With the significant surplus, the State also strengthened its Rainy Day Fund, which more than doubled to $22.3 million.

"In our work together over the past year, we have made great progress in our efforts to help set the foundation for a new generation of economic growth that will lift all of our people," Governor Hassan said. "By carefully managing state agency expenditures, taking preemptive action to protect our budget and maintaining fiscal responsibility, we ended Fiscal Year 2015 with a $62 million surplus, allowing us to strengthen our Rainy Day Fund, which we more than doubled to $22.3 million."

The state's fiscal position is also enhanced, Governor Hassan said, by efforts over the last three years that settled costly litigation that threatened the state's financial future.

"Despite this progress, we know that there is more to do in order to support job-creating businesses, expand opportunities for middle class families and keep our economy moving in the right direction," Governor Hassan said. "We also know that we must continue to strengthen our efforts to combat the heroin and opioid crisis in order to stem -- and reverse -- the tide of this horrible epidemic and save lives. With a fiscally responsible, compromise budget in place for the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 biennium, I look forward to continuing to work with members from both parties, state agencies and our hard-working state employees to maintain our commitment to a fiscally responsible, balanced budget and keep our state moving forward."
