Rep. Perry Statement on President's FY17 Budget

Press Release

Date: Feb. 12, 2016
Location: Washington, D.C.

This week, President Obama released his final budget proposal, which means that he'll leave office having never proposed a budget that balances -- ever. The $4.1 trillion proposal is the costliest Obama budget yet and the first $4 trillion budget in federal history. The budget would increase our National debt to $27.4 trillion over the next decade -- more than twice the debt when President Obama took office.

It gets worse. The President's proposed $10.25 per barrel oil tax would raise the average cost of gasoline by 24 cents per gallon - not to mention hurt jobs and a major sector of our economy.

Americans deserve better. We MUST tackle our fiscal problems before they destroy our economy. My first bill introduced this Congress seeks to adopt a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution and confront the debt crisis that threatens the economic security of every American. Hard-working people and businesses throughout Central Pennsylvania know what it's like to live on a budget and have to make tough decisions to live within their means every day. Washington needs to learn to do the same. We must stop spending money we don't have.
