Lofgren & Thompson introduce "No Guns for Terrorists Act"

Press Release

Date: Nov. 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, and Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, introduced the No Guns for Terrorists Act of 2015 to prohibit the sale of firearms to individuals suspected of terrorism.

"Many refugees seeking protection in the United States are persecuted religious minorities, victims of terrorism, orphans, and women and children," said Lofgren and Thompson. "They are required to undergo a rigorous screening process, including background checks, national security vetting, biometric identifiers, and interviews -- a process which takes between 18-24 months on average. Here in Congress we may not agree on every aspect of how best to keep our nation safe from terrorist attack, but we should all agree that we can't allow terrorists to legally purchase firearms at will. If we are serious about protecting against acts of violence like what occurred in Paris, then this bill should be our first course of action."
