Press Release

Date: Jan. 17, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) issued the following statement applauding the release of the American prisoners held in Iran:
"Today we welcome home four American prisoners held by the Iranian government," said Congresswoman Matsui. "The Obama Administration has made securing their release a top priority and I am thankful they will be able to return to their families."

"The release of these American prisoners is a testament to the hard work of the Administration and it shows what can be achieved through renewed diplomacy made possible by the adoption of the nuclear agreement. While I am cautiously optimistic, we must also remember that this is a regime that regularly violates the human rights of its people and funds terrorism throughout the Middle East. Both the Administration and Congress should continue to make appropriate efforts to curb Iran's destabilizing actions."
