Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) announced that the region has received over $2 million in grants through the federal COPS Grant Program. The City of Sacramento will receive $1.8 million to hire 15 police officers and the City of West Sacramento was awarded $250,000 to hire two new police officers. The program provides salaries and benefits for officer hires for three years.
"It is welcome news that both the Sacramento Police Department and the West Sacramento Police Department have been awarded federal funding to hire these new officers," said Congresswoman Matsui. "This federal funding will make our community safer and ensure that law enforcement agencies have the tools and resources it needs to build trust and relationships within our communities."
