Congressman Garamendi Discusses GI Bill at Woodland Community College before 100+ Crowd of Veterans, Students, Family, and Faculty

Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA), a Member of the House Armed Services Committee whose father served in the Army during World War II, yesterday greeted more than 100 veterans, students, military families, and faculty at Woodland Community College. Woodland Community College President Michael White and Chancellor Doug Houston also addressed the audience.

"After World War II, the GI Bill helped give birth to a rapidly expanding American middle class and expanded opportunities for people of all racial and economic backgrounds. People who risked everything to rid the world of the existential threat of fascism had an opportunity in higher education that was previously unavailable to their parents, and with that opportunity, many found rewarding careers and cemented the dynamic American economic engine we know today," Congressman Garamendi said.

"I am pleased to see so many veterans benefiting from the new GI Bill, which carries on this legacy for a new generation of veterans. It provides enhanced educational benefits to our servicemembers and their families as they transition out of military service," Garamendi added. "The GI Bill is earned by the blood, sweat, and tears of our veterans, and it's a boon not just to veterans and their families but also to the entire nation. So long as I'm in Congress, I will always support the GI Bill, because college degrees and career education unlock doors that should never be closed on our veterans."
