Ayotte Statement on Release of Reported al Qaeda Bomb Expert, Explosives Trainer From Gitmo

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) released the following statement regarding the Department of Defense's announcement that they have released two Guantanamo Bay detainees to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro:

"With the release from Guantanamo of two detainees, one who reportedly was an al Qaeda explosives expert and another an explosives trainer, the Obama administration continues to gamble with the safety of Americans and our allies in order to fulfill a misguided and dangerous campaign promise.

"I renew my call for the administration to tell Americans how it plans to ensure these detainees will not rejoin terrorist activities, and to be forthright about the detainees' terrorist activities and associations. I continue to believe that all releases should be halted until Congress conducts a thorough review of the administration's actions, particularly related to the release of detainees like Ibrahim al Qosi in 2012, given that he is now a leader and spokesman for al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula."
