Hill Statement on Visit to Guantanamo Bay

Statement

Date: Sept. 23, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman French Hill (AR-2) released the following statement after returning from a Congressional Delegation visit to United States Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (GTMO):

"My visit today to the detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay Cuba was enlightening and confirmed the continued need to hold dangerous agents of terrorism at this facility. During the visit, I assessed GTMO's facilities and operations, including the status of detainee healthcare, dietary support, detention oversight, and housing conditions.

"In my view, GTMO offers our Nation a safe and secure facility for the custody of perpetrators of terror including ruthless killers, bomb makers, the bomber of the USS Cole, and the 9/11 Five. Further, we have invested in state-of-the-art secure courtroom facilities that enable the proper adjudication of the detainees by military commission. GTMO remains a key national intelligence resource."
