Fischer Statement on Extension of Highway Authority

Statement

Date: Oct. 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the Commerce Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, released the following statement after the passage of a temporary extension of spending authority for programs funded through the Highway Trust Fund (HTF):

"I am disappointed yet another short-term extension was needed today. However, I am encouraged by the progress that has been made in the House on a long-term funding highway measure. Importantly, the short-term extension approved today also provides needed time to implement new rail safety technology known as Positive Train Control.

"Nebraskans want a long-term transportation bill that provides certainty, advances highway project construction, and enhances road safety. Once the House passes their bill, I am confident we can come together and craft a bipartisan, multi-year transportation bill. The safety and reliability of our nation's transportation system depends on it."
