Hoyer Receives Congressional Fire Services Institute Legislator of the Year Award

Statement

Date: Dec. 16, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) received the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) Legislator of the Year Award at the Phoenix Park Hotel in Washington, DC. Each year, CFSI chooses legislators who have made a significant contribution to the fire service to receive their Legislator of the Year Award. Congressman Hoyer currently serves as a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus.

"I was humbled to receive this award today from the Congressional Fire Services Institute," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "As much as I am honored to be receiving it, what I am most honored to do is stand up for the courageous men and women of the fire services each and every day in Congress. They are the ones who deserve all the recognition. I've been proud to serve as co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, working to ensure that the unique challenges of firefighters, EMS technicians, and their families are heard in the halls of Congress. I look forward to ensuring that our men and women of the fire services have the resources they need when responding to calls and I will keep fighting to secure funding for grant programs like Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) each year. I will also continue advocating for firefighters killed in the line of duty and for their families to receive the benefits they deserve."
