Speaker John Boehner appointed U.S. Representative Sean Duffy (WI-07) to the House Select Investigative Panel of the Energy and Commerce Committee:
Rep. Duffy commented: "The practices uncovered in these videos have drawn the attention of our nation and driven Americans' curiosity of the inner-workings of this historically opaque industry. It will be the task of this panel to determine if their practices are both safe and in accordance with the law. I thank the Speaker for entrusting me with a position on this committee and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides on the aisle."
Ten videos were released since July showing high-level officials at organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Stem Express, and Advanced BioResources discussing actions that would potentially violate federal law. Moreover, their discussions imply that these criminal actions are widespread. This panel will be tasked with discovery as to the prevalence of these practices.
Additional Republicans named to the panel are Chairman Marsha Blackburn, Representatives Diane Black, Mia Love, Vicky Hartzler, Dr. Larry Bucshon, MD, and Dr. Andy Harris, MD.
