Issue Position

America and the global economy is currently going through a transformation of a scale and speed not seen since the Industrial Revolution. A major reason for that is the rise of the Internet. There is almost no corner of the economy untouched by what's happening online -- a development that has caused some disruption, but also huge increases in prosperity, choice, and convenience for all Americans.

Building a New American Economy will require protecting the Internet as a conduit for innovation, not smothering it with new taxes and regulations. Marco will fight to protect a free Internet, strengthen our cyber security capabilities, block new taxes that will raise costs for consumers and businesses online, and protect innovations like the sharing economy from overzealous regulators.

As President, Marco will:
Vigorously Defend Internet Freedom

Repeal President Obama's Net Neutrality takeover of the Internet, which will hamper innovation and raise costs for Internet users;

Build off unanimous support of a resolution he introduced (adopted unanimously by the U.S. Senate) to fight proposals from foreign governments to gut current multi-stakeholder governance of the Internet.

Strengthen American Response to Cyber Attacks

Encourage information sharing between the federal government and the private sector to adequately respond to cyber threats, while maintaining privacy protections;
Use American power to respond harshly to international cyber attacks on American citizens, businesses, and governments.

Reallocate Wireless Spectrum to Meet Commercial Needs

Reallocate spectrum controlled by the federal government for commercial wireless services and increase transparency.

Fight Threat of New Taxes on the Internet

Prohibit state and local governments from taxing the internet by making the Internet Tax Freedom Act (ITFA) permanent;
Oppose the Marketplace Fairness Act, a massive, new Internet sales tax that will crush small and medium-sized businesses and kill jobs.
