We all watched with horror as ISIS brutally targeted innocent civilians on the streets of Paris. The U.S. and our allies have a responsibility to join France in responding swiftly and forcefully to these attacks. ISIS is not a "JV team," nor are they "contained" as the President recently claimed.
More than a year ago, I called on the President to develop a clear strategy with achievable objectives to defeat this terrorist threat. What we received instead are hollow words and assurances that serve as little more than a distraction from the reality that the President's so-called "strategy" to combat ISIS is an abject failure.
In the wake of this deadly attack, President Obama needs to do three things:
Pause the Syrian refugee program until DHS can verify that applicants do not have ties to ISIS or other terror groups.
Lay out a clear, credible strategy for eradicating ISIS; and
Explain to the American people his plan to keep our people safe here at home.
We need strong leadership now more than ever, and I hope the President can rise to this challenge. Unfortunately, despite the Paris attacks, the President appears to still be moving forward with his plan to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. Last weekend, it was reported that the Administration transferred five detainees from GITMO to the United Arab Emirates, and it is clear the President wants to relocate some of the remaining detainees, including hard-core terrorists, here to the United States.
