Graves Named to Transportation Conference Committee

(Washington, D.C) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves was named to the House-Senate Conference Committee on H.R. 3, the Transportation reauthorization bill. The Committee will negotiate the final version of the bill putting Graves in an influential position to help Missouri roads. Graves serves on the subcommittee where the bill started and now he will get to help put the finishing touches on the bill.

"This is great news for Missouri," said Graves. "I am pleased to be in a position to help our roads."

In the House approved version the bill called for $790 million more dollars for Missouri. In addition it earmarked $45 million specifically for projects throughout the Sixth Congressional District. Graves is the only Missouri House member and one of only 18 House Conferees who will work out the differences with the Senate.

"We need to work together so that we can quickly resolve our differences," said Graves. "I want to finish this bill and start pouring concrete."

According to a study by The Road Information Program (TRIP) the help is desperately needed. The study found that the Kansas City metropolitan area has the worst roads in the nation. Graves said that past funding has been inadequate.

"It drives home the point that we have a lot of work to do in Missouri," said Graves.
