During the week of December 7, the Senate is expected to vote on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), legislation that would reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and reform No Child Left Behind.

On December 2, the House of Representatives passed this bill.

A primary objective of this bill is to lessen Washington, DC's grip on directing education policy, such as mandating Common Core.
