Statement

It was a busy week in DC as we came upon the end of our nation's fiscal year - yet again without a budget.

So, I did the responsbile thing and voted for a short term Continuing Resolution, known as a CR, that will keep our spending caps in place and the government funded through Dec. 11th, while the leaders of both parties work toward a solution to long term budget agreement.

I'm here to work for you and govern in Congress as part of the solution, and I'm proud not to be part of the problem.

Clean Energy

On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a rule lowering the ozone standard, a costly new regulation that will kill jobs and make it harder for companies in OH-14 to succeed. This is why we need to pass a bill I cosponsored, H.R.1388, the Clean Air, Strong Economies Act.

This bill would block the EPA from taking this action until at least 85% of counties have the chance to meet this standard, and force the EPA to consider the cost and feasibility of lowering this standard. Those are things the EPA currently doesn't take into account and that's unfair to the business owners who will now be forced to comply with this regulation.

Iranian Terrorism

We passed an important bill H.R. 3457 Justice for Victims of Iranian Terrorism Act which holds Iran accountable by requiring them to pay court-ordered compensation to victims of its state-sponsored terrorism before we lift any sanctions.

If you can believe it, Iran owes victims of its terror over $43 Billion.

It's a shame that our leaders would negotiate with Iran, the world's leading state sponsor of terror, but neglect to get justice for the hundreds of Americans who have suffered because of Iran's activtiites. This bill seeks to resolve that.

Keeping Our Troops Safe

On Thursday, we passed an important bill: H.R. 1735 National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year of 2016, commonly known as the NDAA.

The NDAA is the annual bill Congress addresses to fund the Department of Defense and the national security programs of the Department of Energy. It's important we pass this bill so that our military has the funds and resources it needs to protect and serve us safely. It would be an abdication of our duty not to.
