South Carolinians are optimistic when it comes to finding jobs in the Palmetto state.

According to a recent USA TODAY / Wells Fargo Real Economy survey, 42 percent of South Carolinians say there is a growing job market, compared with only 33 percent nationwide. The numbers are no surprise to South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who said 'I think we are on the verge of greatness as a country economically."

The survey showed South Carolinians believe manufacturing jobs could be the saving grace of the state's economy. The number of manufacturing jobs statewide has gone up 14 percent since January 2011. Nearly half of those surveyed (48%) believe manufacturing has room to grow. "In South Carolina we are having a manufacturers renaissance" says Scott. "We are perhaps one of the greatest economies of making things in America. People are looking at us and are marveling at the fact that we are succeeding".

Scott says South Carolina's low tax environment, coupled with the low cost of living, is helping to fuel the manufacturing success. The Senator says "I've learned that a good economy makes all things possible.". But Scott says another key area that's vital is education. "The competition we face is a global competition, so getting the education system right in South Carolina is critically important to the success we want to see here at home", Scott said. He added that additional education after high school helps in bringing more jobs to South Carolina. "Manufacturers love a trained workforce" says Scott.

The USA TODAY/Wells Fargo Real Economy online survey sampled 3,533 people across the country age 18 and over, including an oversampling of at least 500 adults in North Carolina, Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon and South Carolina.
