Statement from Governor Hassan on Senator Shaheen's Emergency Funding Bill to Address Opioid and Heroin Abuse Epidemic

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on Senator Jeanne Shaheen's announcement of emergency funding legislation to address the heroin and opioid abuse epidemic:

"The heroin and opioid crisis is the most pressing public health and safety challenge facing our state, and we must all work together, at every level, on a comprehensive approach to stem and reverse this tide. We are taking a number of important steps in New Hampshire to combat this epidemic, including our work toward expedited legislation in January, and Senator Shaheen's proposal will help ensure support from the federal government for the state's efforts. Many of the items outlined in her legislation will strengthen ongoing programs in New Hampshire and support those fighting the crisis on the front lines, and I applaud Senator Shaheen for her leadership to bring additional resources for prevention, treatment and recovery efforts."
