Governor Hassan's Statement on White House Announcement of Additional Provider Training Commitments to Supplement New Hampshire's Efforts

After the White House announced additional provider training commitments from more than 40 provider groups to supplement New Hampshire's efforts, Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement:

"Addressing the heroin and substance abuse crisis requires partnerships at every level to strengthen education, prevention and treatment, and I'm encouraged that the federal government is working to match our efforts in New Hampshire.

"In New Hampshire, we've been focused on helping prevent the overprescribing of opioids that can lead to addiction and heroin use, including by bringing a nationally recognized program to our state to help improve provider training and working with the medical community to develop stronger rules on the prescribing of opioids that would require continuing medical education on the best practices to avoid patients developing addictions.

"As we continue to combat this public health and safety crisis facing our state, we need Washington to act now to provide additional resources for our state, and to reject the deeply concerning cuts to grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Congress's Fiscal Year 2016 budget.

"We must continue working together across party lines at the state, federal and local levels every single day to combat this crisis and implement policies that will help save lives."
