Governor Hassan's Statement on Proposed Drug Court Legislation

Statement

Date: Oct. 13, 2015
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on proposed legislation to fund drug courts through state matching grants:

"The heroin and substance abuse crisis is the most pressing public health and safety challenge facing our state, and expanding drug courts across New Hampshire is an important part of a comprehensive approach to combat this crisis. In July, I proposed additional funding to expand drug courts throughout the state, including in the City of Manchester, and I look forward to working with legislators from both parties and other stakeholders on this important effort to establish new drug courts.

"As we work to expand drug courts, we must also increase treatment capacity in order to ensure that those who go through our drug courts have access to treatment services. That is why we must also reauthorize as soon as possible our bipartisan health care expansion plan, which has already provided treatment services to thousands of Granite Staters and brings tens of millions of federal funds into our state that help increase treatment capacity."
