Governor Hassan's Statement on Sustained Veto of Education Bills

Statement

Following the New Hampshire State Legislature sustaining her veto of three bills relative to education -- Senate Bill 101, House Bill 332 and House Bill 603 -- Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement:

"New Hampshire's economic competitiveness depends on our ongoing commitment to ensuring that our students and workers have the skills needed to compete in the future, and we must demonstrate that commitment to high standards in education that the business community is calling for in order to attract and retain job-creating businesses. We should not undermine college- and career-readiness standards that are supported by educators and businesses, Republicans and Democrats, nor should we impose unnecessary burdens on school districts that only serve to inhibit classroom discussions as well as access to important information. Instead, we should be focused on continually improving the education we offer our children and ensuring a strong public education system."
