78,000 Jobs Added in May, Unemployment Rate Falls

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today praised President Bush's economic policies for helping spur 24 straight months of job growth. In addition to reporting an increase of 78,000 jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported today that the unemployment rate fell to 5.1 percent in May - significantly down from 6.3 percent in June 2003 and at its lowest level since September 2001.

"This is why the Democrats have no credibility on economic issues," Diaz-Balart said. "All last year we heard about a ‘jobless recovery' yet here we are with 24 straight months of job growth - thanks to President Bush's strong economic leadership."
