Cuban American Congressmen Express Solidarity With Brave Freedom Fighters as They Begin Historic Assembly To Promote Civil Society Inside Cuba
South Florida's Cuban American Congressmen, Mario Diaz-Balart, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and Lincoln Diaz-Balart, issued the following statements in support and in solidarity with the brave freedom fighters who are risking their lives to initiate the historic Assembly to Promote Civil Society inside Cuba.
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25): "Tyranny is never acceptable, and the United States will always commend and endorse those who love freedom and liberty. We stand in solidarity with those dedicated to seeing a free Cuba. Fidel Castro has incarcerated thousands of political prisoners in Cuba, but he has not and cannot imprison their longing for freedom and democracy. The Assembly is a brave step which simply seeks to bring freedom, democracy and human rights to the oppressed island."
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18): "It is the duty of every freedom loving Cuban in and out of the island to show their support for the men brave and women who have set up and planned this historic meeting in the very heart of the brutal Castro dictatorship. Democracy, freedom and liberty cannot be stopped once they take hold for they are inert in every one of us. The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with these courageous freedom fighters and we shall do everything in our power to help them bring these ideals to their oppressed brethren. The winds of change are afoot and the Assembly to Promote Civil Society has our total and unabashed support."
Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (FL-21): "The men and women of the Assembly to Promote Civil Society in Cuba are demonstrating to the world, with this remarkable gathering of May 20, the same courage and tenacity that the Cuban Freedom Fighters of the 19th Century embodied as they fought for the independence of Cuba. The valiant steps taken by the Assembly will be forever remembered when historians look back upon Cuba's irreversible path toward freedom and democracy. I congratulate Martha Beatriz Roque, Felix Bonne Carcasses and Rene Gomez Manzano for the stellar manner in which they have coordinated this historic event."
