Pentagon Proposes Expansion of Homestead Reserve Base
The Department of Defense (DOD) today released its Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) proposal list. DOD included Homestead Air Force Reserve Base among those it recommends for expansion. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) expressed his support for DOD's plans for Homestead.
"As the closest military installation to a country on the State Department's state sponsors of terrorism list, Homestead Air Force Reserve Base is critical to the on-going War on Terror as well as being an important fixture in South Florida," Diaz-Balart said. "I am pleased the Department of Defense recognizes Homestead's unique location and capabilities and has expressed its intention to expand the base. As this process moves forward, I will continue to work with DOD and my colleagues in Congress to ensure Homestead remains a priority base."
According to DOD's assessment, Homestead AFRB is projected to add 71 civilian personnel.
